KeNIA actively participated in the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) Regional Climate Change and Agri Expo held in Kakamega, showcasing its commitment to driving innovation for climate resilience and sustainable agriculture. During the event, KeNIA exhibited under two flagship programs:
The Presidential Innovation Challenge and Award (PIA) - designed to identify, nurture, and scale innovative solutions with national impact.
Innovation Academy - a capacity-building program helping institutions and innovators develop, test, and scale solutions.
The Agency also spotlighted ventures from the PIA 2024/2025 cohort, including Nymbee, M-Taka, Blaing Barry’s Coffee, and Fibertext Green Paper Ltd., each offering creative approaches to sustainability and resource efficiency.
In addition to the exhibition, KeNIA joined a pitching competition that marked the culmination of a 52-hour hackathon featuring solutions in Blue Economy, Agroecology, and Climate Technology. The Agency also commended Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology for its dynamic Innovation Academy, established in February 2024, which has already registered 76 intellectual property rights and onboarded nearly 600 innovators. With several research-based innovations ready for market, the university is now pursuing partnerships to scale its impact and strengthen innovation capacity within the region.
